 Healthcare providers are fortunate that the South Carolina Legislature
had the good judgment to enact legislation establishing the SC Medical
Malpractice Patients’ Compensation Fund during a time of crisis in 1976.
This State agency has provided excess medical malpractice coverage for
our State for the past 28 years. We are again in a period of critical
challenges and fortunately we have the infrastructure in place to
continue as the insurer of choice for the vast majority of physicians
and dentists in the state. Our excellent staff is supported by a
dedicated, highly competent and voluntary Board. In these times of
intense financial pressure, we are confident that as other insurers
continue to depart the market, we will remain a strong and viable
partner in the provision of healthcare in this State. |
